You Don’t Need Permission: Why Your Yes Matters the Most

Who do you think you still need permission from?
Your parents? Your boss? Your partner?
Sometimes the people who love us the most are the ones who unknowingly place invisible ceilings above our heads.
And if we’re not careful, we spend years believing we need someone else’s approval before we move forward.
But here’s the truth:
You don’t need anyone’s permission to grow. You just need your own.
I’m Minami Yusui, and welcome to the YU-project — the space where we turn self-doubt into self-trust so you can show up with confidence, ease, and joy.

Growing up as the youngest in my family, I often heard, “You’re not as smart as the others.”
Now that I think about it, that really wasn’t fair. I just hadn’t been around as long as they had.
But the moment those words landed in my heart, they became a belief I carried for years:
“I’m the dumb one.”
So later, when I finally decided to write a book, guess what came back?
That same old voice:
Who am I to write a book?
I’m not smart enough.
What will my family think?
But then, I thought about the people in Japan who might need this message — the message that you are unlimited, that new possibilities begin the moment you choose to show up today.
I wanted to share my stories honestly because if even one person felt less alone by reading them, then writing the book would be worth it.
And when it was finally published, I started receiving messages from readers.
People I had never met before.
They wrote things like:
“Your story helped me believe I can begin too.”
“I feel excited to start showing up again.”
That’s when it hit me:
The permission I had been waiting for was never theirs to give.
It was mine all along.
Gatekeepers aren’t bad people.
They’re often speaking from their own fears, their own limits, their own stories — sometimes even their own generation.
You can love them deeply and still outgrow the expectations they have of you.
Because the moment you stop asking,
“Am I allowed?” and start asking,
“Who can I help if I stop waiting?”
That’s when your life begins to expand.
That’s when things start feeling alive again.
You don’t need anyone else’s yes to live your calling.
You just need to take one step — even a small one — toward the direction you truly want to go.
And remember:
Even if today feels limited,
How your life unfolds is Unlimited.
You are Unlimited.
