Celebrate the Small Wins: How Showing Up Creates Big Breakthroughs

Do you ever feel like you’re doing everything right, but nothing is moving forward?
You’re applying, auditioning, sending out résumés, networking—and yet, rejection after rejection makes you wonder, what’s the point?
I know that feeling. I lived it for years, auditioning for show after show in New York.
I would pour all my energy into one audition—stay up late memorizing lines, get up early to warm up, bring all my hopes into the room—and then not book it. Walking out of that room, it felt like all my effort was wasted.
And honestly, that cycle can be exhausting and discouraging.
But what I eventually learned changed everything: the outcome was never in my control.
Whether the casting director said yes or no, whether I fit what they had in mind, or whether they already had someone lined up—none of that was up to me.

What was up to me was how I showed up.
I could control whether I got out of bed that morning.
I could control whether I warmed up, stayed consistent, and kept improving.
And every single time I did that, I grew stronger—whether I got the job or not.
To remind myself of that, I started keeping an audition journal.
Looking back, it took me 88 auditions to book my first job.
Not Broadway—that came ten years later—but each step mattered.
In my journal, I didn’t just track results; I celebrated progress.
Here’s an example:
“Didn’t get seen today, but I was so prepared. Woke up early and warmed up!”
Or:
“Made the first dance cut! Didn’t book it, but learned so much from that amazing director.”
Those little notes reminded me that I was growing, even when the answer was no.
And here’s the key: The moment you stop showing up, your chance is zero.
But the moment you do show up—even if the odds are tiny—you create possibility.
Even a 0.01% chance is infinitely more than zero.
Those small moments of courage, effort, and self-trust are what eventually create breakthroughs.
So if you feel stuck right now, or rejection is making you lose hope, pause and ask yourself:
👉 What’s one thing I can control today?
It might seem small, but it matters—because what you do today shapes who you become tomorrow.

If you showed up today, that alone is worth celebrating.
You stepped forward instead of staying in your comfort zone.
The more you celebrate those small steps, the more your motivation stays alive, your mind stays healthy, and your journey feels joyful.
Don’t wait for the “big win” to feel proud.
Celebrate every victory, every effort, and every step you take.
That’s how you keep going.
And that’s how your story keeps moving forward.
